Working with marginalized / Sinit and Roma: Albania

How do you feel when you see children instead of going to school collecting plastic bottles to have enough to eat? Their parents having no rights. Would you like to be part of making a difference? Could you see yourself loving and teaching them, sharing God´s word of hope?

  • Start Date: As soon as possible
  • Commitment Length: 1-2 years (Full Time)

In Lushnje, we have been running the Emanuel Centre for 13 years. We are reaching out to about 35 Sinit and Roma families. They are mostly illiterate and have no jobs. So, they go to collect plastic bottles or beg. The children are forced to do the same if they want to eat. They have almost no rights in Albanian society. They aren´t thinking of the future - they live day by day. We offer kids clubs and homework help for the children, women's Bible studies and food packages for those who go to school. We visit them in their houses and share God´s hope with them. In summer, we run evangelistic camps. We need people that like to play football with the teenage boys or hang out with the teenage girls and give them a godly example.

You will need:

  • Willingness to learn Albanian
  • Humility
  • Flexibility
  • A love for people and for sharing the Gospel with them
  • Knowledge of leading a Bible study
  • Willingness to be a homework assistent
  • Sport skills
  • Playing the guitar would be nice
  • An outgoing personality and find joy in making new relationships

Please note: all jobs/opportunities on this site are unsalaried. Most people joining OM have to raise financial support to cover their living expenses, usually through gifts from home churches and other supporters.
